What people are saying about us!

  • "We had a good workout paddling to an island offshore and then the old break wall. At the break walk we got a close up of a young seal. Clay was a very knowledgeable guide. September is a great month to go Kayaking, the ocean is warm and no crowds so more intimate experience"

  • “Clay was a knowledgeable and friendly guide. He was patient with me as I learned the basics of paddling and told us about animals and plant life as we paddled along. We also had time to get out of our boats and explore Chote island. Super nice way to spend an afternoon. Would recommend!"

  • “So many SEALS! I've gone on the trip to the Dry Salvages with North Shore so many times because I love it! This time was great, too! It's so much fun to see all of the colorful kayaks in a row at the boathouse. Loading into the kayaks is easy at their beach. The trip out is so exciting, and then seeing seals every time is amazing. This time, we stayed out at the seals for about 1.5 hours, watching their antics and taking pictures and videos. We even heard seals that were hauled out howling! Thank you for a consistently great time!

Press and Publicity

  • Rockport features over 10 miles of coastline, not including its two major islands (see above). Naturally, one of the best ways to experience the ocean and take in the sea views is by boat. North Shore Adventures and Outdoor Center, located steps away from Bearskin Neck and Motif No. 1, is the place to find kayak rentals.

  • Now named North Shore Adventures, Kern hopes to offer guided hikes, rock climbing excursions, SCUBA gear and classes, and hunting and fishing trips from the shop at at 9 Tuna Wharf. For the time being, though, it will offer bike, kayak and flip-flop adventures!.

  • Taking my Italian Husband Kayaking with the sharks...... (not really though)

  • “Our most popular island is Straitsmouth Island,” says North Shore Adventures owner Clayton Kern. It’s about a 30-minute paddle and has a lighthouse that visitors can climb when it’s open in the summertime. Other popular spots are Thatcher Island, which is farther out to sea and has two lighthouses, and The Salvages, a set of rocks that’s home to a gray seal colony.

  • North Shore Adventures & Outdoor Center is a one-stop shop for those wanting to explore the waters of Rockport, in Cape Ann, an hour’s drive north of Boston. If you’re after a laid- back kayaking trip or you want to try standup paddleboarding, book in for a gentle excursion close to shore. More experienced kayakers can join an expedition that heads 2.5 miles out to sea to the Dry Salvages, an outcrop of rocks where seals bask in the sunshine. If you’re in luck, you might catch a glimpse of a giant ocean sunfish, one of the largest bony fish in the world.
